50 Pointless: Pierce lights up Cavs in loss
Those who witnessed last night's game between the Celtics and the Cleveland Cavaliers got a real treat as Paul Pierce and Cavs young star LeBron James combined for 93 points, including 50 by Pierce. Unfortunately the Celtics once again came up short, losing 113-109 in double overtime.
King James put up 43 and once again lead Cleveland, who are now 31-21 on the season. James was coming off a 44 point night against San Antonio on Monday night...It is still amazing to your Uncle Buck that this kid is only 20...
Pierce shot 17-for-36 from the field and was 16-for-20 from the free-throw line. He became the first Celtic to score 50 since Larry Bird had 50 on November 10th, 1989. Pierce outscored James 17-6 in the 4th quarter, but missed a potential game-winning layup in the closing seconds of the 1st overtime. He came on strong in the 2nd overtime, but fouled out with one minute left in the game...
Wednesday night's game conjured up memories of the great Bird-Magic battles from the 80s...Sadly neither one of these teams are close to being as good as the Celtics or Lakers were then. The Celtics are a pathetic 20-32 right now and still working on Danny Ainge's plan to rebuild...UB has to give Pierce a lot of credit for sticking with the Celtics and not demanding a trade. While he took the team to the Conference finals in 2002, they are clearly rebuilding. It is just a shame to have some one with Pierce's scoring ability squandered on a bottom feeding team...
