Steel pitty, Pittsburgh finally gets back to the Super Bowl

During the 2004 playoffs Red Sox fans would say that had they not beaten the Yankoffs, their nemesis for over 100 years, en route to their 1st world title in 86 years it would have not been as great to become champion. Is that what Steelers fans will say if they win Super Bowl XL without having defeated the New England Patriots? Remember it is the Patriots that ended the Steelers Super Bowl hopes in 1997 and in AFC title games in Pittsburgh in 2002 and 2005.

Of course your Uncle Buck is just kidding, sort of, but the Steelers deserve to be the AFC Champions today, after whopping the Denver Broncos in Denver yesterday, completing their 3rd road victory, becoming the 2nd team to reach the Super Bowl with 3 road wins (after one of UB's favorite all time teams the 1985-86 Patriots) and became the 1st team ever to reach the Super Bowl after beating their conference's 1-2-and-3 seeded teams. (Um, is that a Mickey Mouse tattoo on your arm?) Ben Rothlesandwich proved once again he is the real deal with over 275 yards passing, 2 TDs and a TD run. He has a chance to become the youngest winning QB in the Super Bowl, surpassing Tom Brady in that honor.

Jake "The Snake" turned into Jake "The Mistake" again, with two picks and a fumble...

Over in the NFC the Seahawks reached the Super Bowl for the 1st time in their 30 year history, defeating the Carolina Panthers, who UB thought would waltz into the Super Bowl for the 2nd time in 3 years. Instead Jake Delhomme threw 3 picks had his worst playoff start and Shawn Alexander ran for over 132 yards.

Big mouth Steve Smith turned out to be a no show with 5 catches and only 33 yards. Maybe someone spit in his face again during coverage, eh Steve?

Of course it should be noted that UB watched the 1st half of the Broncos-Steelers game on Detective Brian Griffin's 27-inch TV with poor reception before the Detective had to leave to investigate a fire...UB was forced to return to his pad and watch the game on his 51-inch HDTV with surround sound and a full fridge of beer...Thanks a lot Griff!
