Bull shirt: MLB store at it again

Thanks to Boston Dirt Dogs for pointing out yet another outrageous shirt for sale by the Major League Baseball store and MLB.com. The above shirt, which welcomes Johnny Damon to the New York Yankoffs by taking a shot at the Red Sox history, is now the second time in which the league is offering anti-Sox gear for Yankoff fans.

During the 2004 ALCS the MLB store offered up the above item, attempting to capitalize on Pedro Martinez's comments that the Yankoffs were his daddy after he lost to them yet again during the season. Outrage over the shirt forced MLB to pull the shirt off it's website soon after. As you may be able to tell your Uncle Buck is not above pot shots at the New York Yankoffs or their fans, but UB is not the governing body of both organizations. The league has every right to capitalize on the rivalry, but why the one sided attack against the Red Sox? UB doesn't recall any shirts against the Yankoffs after the biggest collapse in the history of playoff baseball. Where were the "Yankees Choke" or "200-Million Doesn't Buy What It Used To" shirts? UB can't believe they would sell worse than the anti-Sox shirts.

Maybe the league should re-think throwing gas on the fire. In 2003 Yankoff players got in a fight with a member of the Fenway Park ground's crew (below). In 2004 Yankoff fans threw so much garbage on the Yankoff Stadium field during Game 6 of the ALCS that the game was stopped, players taken off the field and riot police lined the warning track. In 2005 (above-left) Gary Sheffield got into a skirmish with a fan who was reaching on the field for a ball in play. Shouldn't MLB be more responsible than to sell shirts that are going to start fights between drunken fans in the stands? Oh, maybe that's why they don't allow "Yankoffs Suck" or "Boston Sucks" shirts in the Stadiums/Parks any more...they are trying to corner the market for themselves...

With that in mind here are some anti-Yankoff shirts that are out there...maybe MLB will consider one of these designs before the season starts, to even things out...
