Tony Allen takes a charge
Boston Celtics guard Tony Allen has been charged with aggravated battery after a fight that grew into a shooting outside a Chicago diner two months ago. Allen was to appear Friday at a bond hearing on the felony charge. Allen's attorney says the player is not considered a suspect in the shooting. Allen has been in jail since Wednesday, when he voluntarily went to a Chicago police station to meet with investigators. One man was shot in the left arm and left side Aug. 29 when gunfire erupted during an early-morning fight at the White Palace Grill, police said. Allen was drafted by the Celtics 25th overall in 2004 and started 34 games as a rookie. He averaged 6.4 points and 2.9 rebounds. Allen, who had a small piece of cartilage removed from his right knee in September, has not played in the preseason.
