Welcome to 2nd place, population: Red Sox
It was only a matter of time. The way this team has been playing and the way the Yankoffs have been steamrolling, it was only a matter of time. Yes the Red Sox have been playing 30 games in 30 days and yes injuries have caught up with them, but when it comes down to it they just haven't been able to put together the right pieces game after game. Unlike the Yankoffs who had great pitching and no hitting in Wednesday night's 2-1 win or poor pitching but great hitting like their 12-9 win the other night...The Red Sox have had great hitting and great pitching like in the 15-2 win or bad hitting and bad relief pitching like last night's 7-4 loss.
While the Yankoffs have won 9 of the last 10 the Red Sox have done the following since September 6th: WWLLWLWLWLWWLLWL for a record of 8-8.
Now lets just all catch our breath, as your Uncle Buck always says things are never as bad as they seem and are never as good as they seem either. Here is the way it breaks down. The Yankoffs have 11 games left, the Red Sox 10. The Yankoffs play the next 4 at home, the last 7 on the road. The Red Sox play the next 3 on the road, the last 7 at home. This is far from over and will most likely come down to the final weekend, where the Sox host the Yankoffs for the final 3.
No more half games after the Yankoffs play on Thursday. The Red Sox will either be back a full game or tied for 1st on Friday...
