All is Wells, Boomer on board Red Sox Love Boat
David Wells has had enough and he's...staying? After an off season of trade demands and complaining, Boomer is back on board the SS Red Sox 2006. During an interview with WBZ's Dan Roche, the left-hander rescinded his trade request and said he would most likely retire at the end of the season. Wells said he enjoyed playing for the Red Sox, but being so far from his home in San Diego and the crush of "Red Sox Nation" when ever he went out prompted his trade to the West Coast.
With Wells staying in the mix, he joins Sox starters Curt Schilling, Josh Beckett, Tim Wakefield, Matt Clement, Bronson Arroyo and Jon Papelbon. Arroyo seems destined for the bullpen, while Papelbon may be an insurance policy at closer if Keith Foulke falls off the map early.
