Patriots problems, lose Koppen, Gay

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) Patriots center Dan Koppen has been lost for the rest of the season with a shoulder injury suffered during Sunday's 23-to-16 win over Miami.
Koppen, 26, a three-year NFL veteran, has played in 41 games with New England, including 40 starts, since being selected in the fifth round of the 2003 draft. The former Boston College player took over the starting job in the second game of his rookie season.
The Patriots also put defensive back Randall Gay, 23, on injured reserve for the rest of the year with an ankle injury, further hobbling the team's injury-riddled defense.
In other moves, the team signed free agent cornerback Artrell Hawkins, 28, and free agent offensive lineman Gene Mruczkowski, 25, who has been with the team off and on during the past three seasons and can play either guard or center.
