MLB news and notes

According to Gordon Edes of the Boston Globe the Los Angeles Angels are off Manny Ramirez's list of teams he could go to, as they want him to DH and Manny wants to play the field. There is still a chance that Manny could go to the Mets. WEEI reported the possibility of the Mets sending OF Mike Cameron and two top prospects to the Red Sox for Ramirez. UB doesn't like the sound of that one...

Former Red Sox icon Nomar Garciaparra filed for free agency, apparently ending his short run with the Chicago Cubs. As you recall Nomar was traded by the Red Sox to the Cubs in a multi-team deal that gave the Sox Orlando Cabrera, Doug Mienkiewicz and Dave Roberts, who all helped in the 2004 World Series win and were then gone in 2005...

"Aghh my groin!"

And finally, former Red Sox closer Ugueth Urbina is charged with attempted murder in Venezuela...here is what was on ESPN.com...

CARACAS, Venezuela -- Free agent reliever Ugueth Urbina was arrested and held Tuesday pending a formal charge of attempted murder. Last month, Urbina and a group of men allegedly attacked five workers with machetes and poured gasoline on them in an attempt to set them on fire. All five were injured, some of them with cuts and one with burns on the back and right arm, police said.
Urbina, who was detained late Monday, has insisted he had nothing to do with the violence at his family's ranch Oct. 16.
"Everything will be cleared up soon and people will know the truth," Urbina said from his cell at a police station. "Right now we aren't going to do anything to deny things that aren't true."
The authorities said Urbina would be formally charged once he appears before a judge, and Urbina said he understood that hearing could be held Tuesday.
