Brown out: Pierce, Davis spoil Larry's opening night

The Celtics got their first win of the season last night, beating the New York Knicks 114-100 in overtime. Paul Pierce 30 points and 12 rebounds for the defending Atlantic Division champions, while Delonte West had 14 points to go with his career highs of nine rebounds, nine assists and four blocked shots. The Celtics and Knicks went back and forth through out the game, with neither team getting much of a lead over the other. With time winding down in regulation and the Celtics up 3, the Knicks new coach Larry Brown opted to go for the quick two and foul rather than a 3 with less than 25 seconds left to play. After cutting the game to 1, Pierce was followed and went to the line. Of course he only hit one of two, like he always does, to put the C's up 2. UB knows many look at Pierce as a top level player in the NBA, but every time it comes down to Pierce hitting presser free throws he NEVER hits them both...

In OT sloppy play by the Knicks and a Ricky Davis 3, which put them up 7, sealed the deal. Amazingly Mark (Blunt) Blount showed up with 19 points and some big free throws in OT, meaning he'll take the rest of the week off...

After the game Paul turned a good night into a great night...
