Royal pardon

The Red Sox looked dead in the water going into the bottom of the 7th last night. Down 4-0 to the Kansas Sorry Royals, and having lost Tim Wakefield to a back injury, they were just about to watch their 1/2 game lead flip in favor of the hated Yankoffs...With one out and two on backup catcher Doug Mirabelli took a 3-1 pitch that appeared to be ball 4 and started walking to 1st...Instead it was called a strike. At this point your Uncle Buck is thinking that the Red Sox might really be done for the year. Inability to score runs is one thing, but when you don't get the breaks also, you can sink like a stone. Amazingly it was actually a break that the Sox received from the call as Mirabelli took the next pitch, a meatball, and put it in the monster seats to tie the game 4-4.

Keep on running Willie...A Manny Ramirez sac fly in the bottom of the 8th scored Willie Harris for the winning run, 5-4. Willie was thanked with a pink slip, delivered after the game. In his place the Sox activated Wily Mo Pena off the DL...

An 8th inning steal from Big Papi was the funniest moment in the game. It was Papi's 1st steal since last year, and will most likely be his last for a while...Lucky he didn't break his leg...

Of major concern now was the removal of Tim Wakefield after the 4th due to more problems with his back...If Wake goes on the DL he will join starters David Wells (expected back) and Matt Clement (not). Oh yeah and as for the 7th starter that the Sox had in the pre-season, they traded Bronson Arroyo...UB saw this coming the day that trade was made (hey that rhymes)...

Maybe the Sox should sign Will Ferrell who threw out the 1st pitch in a 70s Luis Tiant uniform...

What could be funnier than Ferrell with El Tiante? How about E-E-E-Rod's 3 errors in last night's game and K with the bases loaded late...Too bad the Yankoffs still won and are only 1/2 game back.
