Rice-A-Phony

Your Uncle Buck is happy to see Jerry Rice hang up his cleats after 20 years in the NFL. First off anyone who says Jerry Rice is not one of, if not the best receivers of all time is crazy. The records speak for themselves...however UB has been very disappointed in Jerry's actions the last couple of years, actions that have tarnished the great one in UB's eyes...

First Jerry and the 49ers split and he goes to Oakland, no big deal, but when the Raiders take the AFC title en route to Super Bowl XXXVII, whose right behind the coach ready to grab the trophy? Jerry Rice...Instead of deflecting attention to MVP Rich Gannon and (at the time) Raider for life Tim Brown, Jerry hogs the glory...I didn't think much of it at the time, until...

Jerry arrives in Seattle and basically rapes the only tradition the Seahawks fans have by taking the retired number of Hall of Famer Steve Largent and wearing it during the 2004 season. Now the Seahawks are just as much to blame, maybe more so, but Jerry has to be called out for insisting on getting his #80. (The Seahawks only other retired number is 12, for the fans...as in the 12th man...no I'm not kidding...)

For his last stop on the Jerry-rig, Rice joins the Broncos, saying he still has a desire to play football...but when the team asks him to take a reduced role as the 4th receiver he says no and quits...days before the season starts! Instead of being the team player that ESPN butt lickers claim he is, Jerry decided to take the walk...and on top of that he retires with the Broncos, instead of working the now popular ''one day contract'' thing and returning to the 49ers. So now SF fans, who have loved him since he became Joe Montana's favorite target in the 1980s, will forever see footage of Jerry's retirement in front of a Broncos banner, a team he played 4 pre-season games with...

A sad end to a great career if you ask me...
